Do you long for another place?

Is there a place somewhere in the world that you not only want to visit, but feel like you have a connection to? You can't get it out of your head, and it seems like home?

I do. Ireland.

I talked about my trip to Ireland here and here. I have been fortunate to visit twice in my young life, but whenever February/March hits every year, I want to visit again. I think I could describe it best as a craving.

When I was younger, I was fascinated with the culture, the music, the traditions, the food. I do have a bit of Irish blood in me, but I am far more German than anything.

I have visited other countries including Scotland, England and Spain, but I don't long for any country like I do for Ireland. Something about it felt like home. I felt entirely in my element. I think I feel a pull to Galway in particular, even though I've only spent about an hour there.

My dad feels a connection to New Orleans, and one of my friends feels drawn to Japan.

So friends, where do you feel drawn? Some consider it vague past life memories, others call it wanderlust. Regardless of the reason why, I want to hear about the place you can't get out of your head!

More Ireland pictures (Blarney Castle): Yes, I kissed the Blarney Stone. It was a lot more challenging to reach than I anticipated!

The Blarney Stone!

And for fun, this song:

Happy Monday!

  1. I went to Ireland when I was 16 and have been craving to go back ever since! Not only is it beautiful but everyone was so so nice. You just don't get that everywhere in America. Loved the song at the end - I first heard it in The Boondock Saints (one of my favorite movies!) and my husband and I actually used it in our wedding.

    1. That is awesome that you used the song in your wedding! I have been playing it CONSTANTLY haha :) I agree about the people, too. They were all so friendly and hospitable. And the scenery is amazing, I vividly remember what it looked like to fly over Ireland for the first time!

  2. DEFINITELY. I long for a humble college town somewhere in California. It's ridiculous how much it feels like home and I've only been there thrice. Sometimes I long for Japan where I have never been. I swear there is some Japanese ancestry in my family and the Japanese in me says I will love it there.
Awesome post. now I feel like writing a similar one :D
p.s: that is such a great backwards bend in the picture above. I salute thee for your fearlessness.

    1. Japan is also amazingly beautiful, some of the pictures of the landscape look like they belong to another world entirely! And that back bend was horrifying lol. I had that 85-year-old man holding me and I was pretty sure I was going to plummet. I almost missed out on kissing the stone because of it!

  3. hi! i found your blog through bloglovin' and I'm soo glad I did! i thought this post was great and I totally understand by what you mean when you say that there's just that one place where you feel like you belong. For me that's California, preferably a beach town. There's just something that clicks and makes me feel so at home and happy. I checked out your love story and engagement story and they are both amazing! you guys are so cute together! Definitely going to follow for sure!

    1. Aww, thank you so much! :) And California is awesome. You get so much amazing scenery packed in one state. You can't beat ocean views, either! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I've never read your blog, until today. I was on someone else's blog (I forget who, sorry!) and linked my way over here. But the funny thing is - this morning I woke up and my heart was aching because I want SO BAD to go back to Ireland, specifically Galway. It's such a wonderful place and I had so much fun on my last trip. I really hope I find a way to make it back, multiple times. And I hope you find your way back there soon as well! :)

    1. That is SO weird that you woke up thinking about Ireland and found your way to this post! I swear there is something haunting about it that sticks with you. Yes, I hope we both get to go back! :) I really want to go one more time before we have kids, and then again when they're old enough to appreciate the history.
